Professor Sean Phipott Discusses Refugee Crisis, Getting His Father Home from Japan Professor Sean Philpott has seen the dangerous living conditions that unfold among massive refugee populations, like the hundreds of thousands of people who lost their homes in Japan. He’s also been working to get his father, a visiting professor in Sendai, Japan, back to the United States. Philpott, a bioethics professor at Union Graduate College, worked with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees in east Africa in the 1990s. He assessed the health of refugees fleeing violence in Somalia and Ethiopia, and arranged for delivery of food, water and supplies to the refugee camps.
