Student Update: Scott Grant, certificate in Clinical Ethics 2009.

 

Scott Grant, Clinical Ethics Certificate 2009, has been busy since completing his course work here in the Bioethics Program. Scott is finishing up his coursework at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and is preparing for his residency in general surgery at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

In addition to his studies, Scott has been busy educating others.Afterspending six weeks at the Hastings Center (2/1/2010-3/12/2010) working on the ethics of surgical error, patient safety, and quality improvement as part of an independent study, he has been asked to present on the topic for a nurse�s education session (Wednesday, April 14, at 7:20 a.m. at Rhode Island Hospital). He will also be giving a lecture entitled "Ethics of Enhancement versus Treatment" for a Dartmouth undergraduate class on April 15 (http://www.dartmouth.edu/~engs05/syllabus/index.html).

Scott has published an article in Virtual Mentor, the American Medical Association's ethics journal in March 2009 entitled "Are There Blueprints for Building a Strong Patient-Physician Relationship?" (http://virtualmentor.ama-assn.org/2009/03/jdsc1-0903.html) and "A Patient's Surgical Safety Checklist" in the Hastings Center's Bioethics Forum: (http://www.thehastingscenter.org/Bioethicsforum/Post.aspx?id=4586&blogid=140).
